Due to a recent implementation Learning Tools Interoperability 1.1 API technology, it is now possible to create and access Turnitin assignments from within ANGEL.

Features

The ability to create Turnitin assignments within ANGEL provides instructors with the following features:

  • Instructors can access Turnitin without going through an account activation process.
  • Students within your ANGEL course will automatically be given access to your Turnitin assignments. Instructors will no longer need to provide access codes to students.
  • Students can access Turnitin from within the familiar ANGEL environment.
  • Grades assigned via Turnitin can be posted to your ANGEL course grade book.
  • Instructors will now have the option to grade assignments using the Turnitin iPad app.
  • Courses may include multiple instructors/teaching assistants in one section.

Activate Turnitin within ANGEL

Create Turnitin Assignments in ANGEL

Create an Assignment

  1. Log on to ANGEL at http://cms.psu.edu and enter your course section.
  2. Select the Lessons tab.
  3. Select the Add Content link in the toolbar
  4. Select the External Tool link.
  5. Enter an appropriate Title for the Turnitin assignment.
    Note: It is recommended that the title include “Turnitin” so that students are aware they the item is a Turnitin drop box.
  6. Under Link Settings, from the Tool Provider pull-down menu, select Turnitin.
  7. Specify other settings as appropriate.
  8. Click the Save button.

Note: Once the first assignment is created, a course corresponding to the ANGEL course will be created within the Turnitin environment.

Adjust Turnitin Assignment Courses

  1. In your ANGEL course, select the link to open your Turnitin assignment.
  2. Click the Launch button. This will allow you to access the Turnitin interface.
    Note: If you do not click the Launch button, students will see an API error when the try to submit an assignment.

    Click Launch.
  3. Within the Turnitin interface, select the Settings tab to the right of the Assignment Inbox tab.
    Note: This is different from the Settings link for a lesson item.

  4. Select the Optional Settings link to view all options.

View and Grade Student Submissions

Student Upload

Once a Turnitin assignment is created on the course Lessons tab in ANGEL, students can do the following.

  1. Enter the ANGEL course and select the Lessons tab.
  2. Select the link for the Turnitin assignment.
  3. The Turnitin interface opens. Students can click the upload icon to begin a file upload.

View and Grade

  1. In your ANGEL course, select the link to open your Turnitin assignment. You will see a list of all uploaded documents.
  2. Click each submission to view Originality Reports and grade contents within Turnitin.
  3. Grades can be exported from Turnitin and imported into the ANGEL grade book following the Turnitin Grade Export feature.

Create PeerMark Assignments

  1. In your ANGEL course, select the link to open your Turnitin assignment. This will allow you to access the Turnitin interface.
  2. Within the Turnitin interface, select the Settings tab to the right of the Assignment Inbox tab.
  3. Select the Optional settings link to view all options. Note: This is different from the Settings link for a lesson item.
  4. In the Optional settings area, select the Yes option for Add PeerMark assignments. Tabs for PeerMark Setup and PeerMark Reviews will be added to the assignment.
